Making sure you choose a photographer that fits your needs
There is no shortage of photographers out there these days, and each one offers something unique and different. Some photographers heavily pose, some use studios, some use natural light, or the outdoors. You have more natural, candid ones, documentary style, expensive, artsy, or budget conscious. Choosing someone to document your family (depending on what you are looking for) can be a very personal experience. And while you are investing your hard earned money into someone, you really want to make sure they are the best fit for you. I have turned down clients before, only because I knew they would be better off with another artist. I want to find my right clients, just as much as you want to find your right photographer! So here is a little more about me and my business. My hope is that when you read this, you will get a good sense about me, and know if we are the right fit!

I only work with families. This includes newborns at home, maternity, motherhood, families, child milestones. I do not do weddings, branding or studio newborn work. I believe it is best to be really good at a few things, instead of spreading yourself thin doing a lot of different things.

I am a lifestyle photographer. If you are just looking for “one photo” of your group, then I’m not your gal. I invest into my clients, and in turn love it when my clients invest into my process. My best work is created when we have a mutual relationship built from trust and understanding! I am not just a quick snap photographer. I like to go deeper and get to know your family, and give you images that make your heart feel something. So if you are looking for deeply personal and emotive images, then I’d love to chat with you!

I’m not a mini session photographer. I sort of cringe when I hear that term. Are they lucrative if done correctly? Sure. Could I make a lot of money doing them? Maybe. But that’s not why I do this. I do this to follow what inspires me and makes me happy. Having a revolving door of clients for a day is not my personal idea of fun. So, if you are curious if I offer them, I do not. There is a possibility I may offer holiday sessions in the coming years, but these would only be offered to current clients.

I do not use props for your newborn session. If you would like those photos of babies being posed into planters, beds, or any other prop- then I’m also not your photographer. Those images are beautiful in their own way. But it just isn’t my style. I prefer artful representations of real life. You bonding with your baby, or your baby cozy in your arms. I always include newborn portraits in my galleries, but they will have a more a natural feel to them, with a creative flair.

All of my sessions that are outdoors are during Golden Hour. When you reach out to me, chances are you did so because you love my portfolio. You love how I capture the light and emotion in my images. I have worked really hard to master this craft and shoot just a certain way to capture that light in your images. I absolutely love golden hour light. I rarely make exceptions here, although may in some instances based on weather or elevation/altitude. Listen, I get that it is tough with little kids to make those later evenings work out. But, I promise it is worth it! I can offer you tips- later naps, later bedtimes, etc,- to help adjust your little one to a later evening. Light is so important to my work, and even an hour earlier will make a big difference. So when it comes to timing, lean into it, trust the process, and you will be absolutely thrilled when you see your gallery!
