Full disclosure: I never thought I would find myself passionate about family photography. I always had this view in my mind of what family photography was. Overly matched outfits, cheesy poses, and fake backdrops. I don’t mean to offend anyone if thats your thing. But, if that is your thing, I’m definitely not your photographer. I have always been drawn to natural life and authentic connections. Watching things, when no one realizes I’m watching. Observing life…observing movements. I never put together that I could make a business out of documenting these things for others.
I knew I liked documenting my family and life experiences through photography in a certain way. When I began to see other photographers in the genre of “lifestyle” photography, documenting the way I had always been drawn to, I was hooked. I found my people, I found a niche. And I began to learn all I could about it. I realized I wanted to give to other families, what I found to be so beautiful, so unique. Your visual story.
So why does a session with me feel different? Because I promise, I won’t be directing you to do cheesy or stiff poses. I rather guide with prompting to illicit genuine emotions, laughter, and love. So when you look at your photographs, it feels like they were taken by an old friend, someone who knows the layers of your family and sees you for what you are.
I also strongly believe in natural backdrops and sentimental elements in your photos. If we shoot outside, we do so in naturally inspirational settings- no fake backdrops! I am a huge believer in outdoor playgrounds, which lend to the timeless feel that my photographs possess. If we shoot indoors for a newborn session, we add personalized elements and sentimental objects, to add even more emotion and memory to your images. This is how I create emotion and nostalgia in my work, and what sets me apart from traditional family photographers.
And finally, I can give style guidance along the way, for classic looks that you will be loving and happy to look back on throughout the years.
