How I Capture Natural Childhood Moments in my Photography
Tips For You To Use at Home
Do you fall in love with natural childhood moments everyday from your kids? It is the beautiful ordinary that is happening before our eyes. It is fleeting, but being able to photograph these moments as they happen provide amazing lifelong memories for you, and your kids as they grow.
With amazing cameras on phones these days, it makes documenting on the go that much easier. I have a few tips and tricks that I use for sessions to capture those candid, quick magical snaps that I want to share with you! My biggest piece of advice is to try not to let your child know they are being photographed. Once they know they need to perform, or feel that attention the beauty of the moment often passes.
Here are my favorite tips to capture those magical candids:
- If you are in an outdoor picturesque place, and your child is engaging in an activity that is connected to nature- get the phone ready! Backdrop and composition is important when creating beautiful photos.
- Focus on the details. Picking flowers, blowing dandelions, playful interactions with siblings. Get in close, focus on expressions, hands, faces, and gestures.
- Prompt your child to a specific activity you would love to photograph. It could be as simple as running through a field. Instead of saying you want their picture to be taken, you can say- “I wonder how quickly you can run across the field!”
- When in doubt, turn anything and everything into a game. Kids love to have fun, so when it is fun, you will always get a great in the moment capture.
These are few of my favorite tips. Keep in mind however, that kids are all different. What works for one may not work for the other. If you can connect and get on your child’s level, it will make capturing natural childhood moments that much easier. I hope these tips help you create beautiful imagery of your kids that will be treasured!
