Holiday Family Photography at Home, and that Feels like You

Holiday family photography always feels like a treat. It is like the celebration at the end of the year; it is festive, joyful, and fun! When I began professional photography, I only saw “holiday mini sessions” – same backdrop, posed, and cookie cutter. And while that is completely fulfilling for so many families, for me, it didn’t appeal. But how could I offer something that still felt inspiring, while also capturing the holidays?
I went back to the core of my business; getting to know each family on a deeper level. Knowing that I wanted to customize sessions for families was an easy thought. What was harder to navigate was how to make it work logistically during the holidays. Most photographers opt for mini sessions because they can photograph 20 families in one day. How could I offer this in a way that felt smart, but also true to myself?
I developed “Home for the Holidays” small batch sessions in 2023, as I way to catch up and reconnect with families from that calendar year. I didn’t know how it would go, but I knew that I could add the customized element that mattered so much to me. It would be in your home, with your traditions, and your cozy spaces. When I met families for these, I was so touched by what we captured!
It was nostalgic ornaments, sharing music and carols, your christmas trees, and lighting the menorah. It was your front porch displays; but most of all, it was YOU. This year will be my third year offering these, and it becomes a December highlight for me.
