Planning Your Family Photography Session
Hudson Valley, Catskills, NYC, Westchester
Fall in the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas is absolutely magical, so it will come as no surprise it is the busiest season for photography. The months of September to November are by far when I see the most families, and there is no shortage of amazing locations, all the way from the Catskills to NYC. There are also logistics I love to share with families to help them prepare. Here are some of my favorite bits of advice for a beautiful fall session!
- Hype up your kids! Tell them we are having an extra special evening, bribe them with goodies, tell them I am the most fun person who will be taking their picture! I highly recommend prepping them in some way (not going in blindly). Prepping the kids is the best way to ensure happy and amped up kids.
- Fall sunset times are perfect for kids! And with the chill in the air, it is not too hot and not too cold. With all of those variables out of the equation, fall sessions tend to be super fun and laidback. If you think your child could be anxious in front of the camera, or with a new person, I recommend letting me know ahead of time. I can approach the situation depending on your child’s needs.
- Fit your styling to our backdrop! If we are in the mountains or heavy fall foliage in the Hudson Valley you can choose a color scheme (think rich, muted colors), or go for layered neutrals. Flowy dresses, and an overall laidback look go great with these backdrops. If we are in the city? Consider a more modern look to match the urban backdrop. I am happy to help with more specific questions!
There is so much more to share! When you reserve a session, I will send you a comprehensive welcome guide which will help with all of the logistics, and keep planning light and fun. Fall is a gorgeous time to document this season for your family! I would love to meet you!
