It is summer in the Hudson Valley, and we are in the thick of outdoor photography season! It is all about location. Locations are powerful tools in photography. They speak to your story. Where do you feel most alive and most like yourself? Where do your kids feel most comfortable? All of this should be considered when choosing your photography location.
Before we settle on a spot, we chat about what you are drawn to. Maybe you a mountain loving family, or you feel your best by the water. The possibilities are endless- wildflowers, rivers, fields and even cityscapes! Urban backdrops don’t get as much attention, but they are incredibly dynamic with tons of inspiration and movement all around. I love offering a diverse array of options to families, because when you feel comfortable in a location it shows! It makes your photos that much better.
Once we find a place that suits your family well, light must also be considered. All of the locations that I offer have amazing sunrise or sunset light, which is always top priority for me. If you have a location that you love, I will often ask questions about the light to make sure it will be a good fit for your photos! Light is a powerful way to convey emotion, something that I am drawn to in all of the sessions I do.
Most importantly, when you look back on your memories over the years, you will remember the special parts about where you were. You will remember how you felt in those moments. The sensory experience comes flooding back- the sights, smells, and sounds! It helps you relive the experience each time. This is why I always want families to consider location very carefully. Locations add weight, nostalgia, and depth to your photographs!
