Hudson Valley Family and Newborn Photographer

For anyone considering working with me, it is so important for not only me to learn about you, but you to learn about me and my journey as a Hudson Valley photographer. I still pinch myself that this is the job I get to do. It never feels like work to me, and I enjoy every aspect of the experience so much; from initial inquiry, to planning, to session date, and then editing and sharing your gallery with you. Each piece of the process brings excitement and energy to me. I feel fortunate to have found this path, as this was not always my way!

My background prior to doing photography full time was 12 years as a neonatal ICU nurse. Once my children were born, nostalgia kicked in for me, and I felt this strong pull to document as much as I could about their experience of growing up. First, it started as a hobby. Photography had always been a passion of mine, and before I had children, my photos consisted of travels from far away lands. Then after kids, I once again found this passion to fuel my creative needs.

I never thought about having my own business. In fact, I really never thought I would be any good at it. But when I left nursing to be a stay at home mom with my daughter, there was a pull inside of me for something more. I knew my primary focus would be my children, but I also knew I wanted to have something else. I had thought about going back to nursing on a smaller scale, but then COVID hit. One of the silver linings of the pandemic is that I was able to really slow down and evaluate a lot of my life and the direction I wanted to go in.

From there, everything happened really fast. It started when I was trying to search for a photographer for my own family, and I just couldn’t find anyone whose style I connected with. I was always drawn to more natural, free photographs. And I thought there had to be other families like me out there who felt strongly about this type of documentation.

From there, Stephanie Lozano Photography was born. I used the extra time in the pandemic to focus on my skill, worked with a mentor, invested in the best equipment, take classes in the style of photography that I truly loved. My first session was in August of 2020, two months after New York State re opened. I was hoping that at least one person would book with me! Slowly each year became more busy, and now in 2023, three years later, I am full time and couldn’t be happier.

I feel an immense sense of gratitude for the families who trust me with their stories. And being able to work with the same families time and time again, is even more special to me. So thank you to all of my families, past, present and future. I feel so passionately about this work, and being able to be trusted with your stories brings so much happiness to my life!

Welcome

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of authentic documentation. Our stories and truths are not only a gift for ourselves, but also through the generations, becoming treasured keepsakes as proof of our place and time. My passion lies in storytelling that focuses on your present moments. Whether our adventures take us deep into the Hudson Valley, high in the Catskill Mountains, or within the comfort of your home, it is always about where you are meant to be and where you feel the most alive.
