Planning Ahead To Stay in the Moment!
Family photography is an investment. And just like anything else you choose to invest in, it becomes meaningful and you want to get the most of the experience. When you choose me for family photos, I choose you right back; my goal being to help you get the most from the experience. So how can you make the most of your family photography session?
The best sessions come when there is some planning put into the process. Thinking of styling, prepping your kids, thinking of the time of year that may be best- it all comes into play. While your photos may look effortless, there is a little “effort” involved!
When you reserve your session, you will receive a welcome guide with loads of styling guidance. Don’t overlook it! Use the styling service, read my suggestions. The single most influential part, besides your connection, is styling for good photos. Photos are visual, and so we want to create art in your photographs with clothing. Colors, textures, it all comes into play. I give you lots of support here, and also available to personally answer questions or bounce ideas off on!
I also recommend to think about timing when you plan family photos. If you have small children, think about sunrise and sunset timing, and how they may be. If bedtimes or naps need to be slightly altered, be open to that. If you need to do some light bribery with snacks to have your kids be OK a little later than usual, be flexible. Remember, this is a unique situation, and happy kids make for more enjoyable sessions!
More than not, my best advice is to stay in the moment. Good prep allows you to do that. Tell your kids we are going on a fun adventure. Tell them my name, even show them my picture! Tell them this is an exciting thing we are doing. Keep a positive attitude, because your kids will pick up on that. And if something goes unexpected, don’t sweat the small stuff. Beautiful photographs have come after meltdowns and total chaos!
