Maximizing Your Photography Session Investment

Making the Most of your Photography Investment

Getting back what you put in

Photography is an investment, but one that you will never regret. When you find a photographer who is the right fit for your family, don’t let that go. Photography, like many things, sits on a spectrum of cost. Photographers who have invested in themselves, their business, their craft, and their client experience will often sit on the high end of the investment spectrum. They value themselves and the experience they deliver. They put the time into what they do, and you will receive a gorgeous, heirloom product when all is said and done.

But like many investments, you will receive far more from it the more you put into the experience. When a family is engaged in the process, reads through the prep guides, takes time to thoughtfully style their family, or adds elements of nostalgia – this all makes your photos that much better. Photography is an emotional process. There is an element of vulnerability as well, to let your photographer really see you. All of this together creates beautifully artistic and memorable images.

A good photographer will prep their clients well. But how can you, the client, make the most of your investment and experience?

  • Read through the prep guides. I created a thoughtful and comprehensive guide that I send out to all families- whether you are a investing in a newborn or family experience- to help you through the process. This contains so much info, all of which is important! Style guidelines, how to help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera, as well as hair/makeup recommendations. But most importantly, it helps shape your mindset going into the session- it is less about perfection, and more about the beauty of your present.
  • Utilize the styling tool. I give all of my families access to a personalized styling tool that curates clothing based on your style and color preferences. Not all clothing that looks good, photographs well. So I tell families that this tool is invaluable! At the very least for inspiration is perfect. Styling can elevate photos big time, so choosing clothing that your family feels comfortable in but also looks good in, is so important.
  • Reach out to your photographer with any questions! They are there to help you. I love when clients ask me questions or want my opinion on something. It means they are thinking about things, and desire for a great outcome. I love guiding you there.

These are just a few of many pieces of advice I have for making the most of your photography investment. A good photographer knows the investment your making is so incredibly special and wants it to be a wonderful experience for you too. Being able to work together will give you the best outcome- photographs that will be treasured for years to come.

Welcome

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of authentic documentation. Our stories and truths are not only a gift for ourselves, but also through the generations, becoming treasured keepsakes as proof of our place and time. My passion lies in storytelling that focuses on your present moments. Whether our adventures take us deep into the Hudson Valley, high in the Catskill Mountains, or within the comfort of your home, it is always about where you are meant to be and where you feel the most alive.
