My Approach to Newborn Photography as a NICU nurse

My Unique Take on Newborn Photography as a former NICU nurse

Natural, connected, and custom to your Experience

As a former NICU nurse, I approach every newborn session with a unique lens of connectivity in my mind. I have had a passion working with mothers and their babies for as long as I could remember. That passion is what drove me to pursue a career as a neonatal intensive care nurse in college. I worked in NICU nursing for 12 years, pausing once my daughter was born to shift into motherhood.

With intentions of returning to the hospital, COVID hit and I had my third baby, and these two things coupled with a desire for a change, led my career path to photography. Being able to photograph mothers with their babies, and grow with families feels like a dream. And my unique background lends to a view on newborn photography that is more connected, emotional, and heartfelt.

When I worked in NICU, families were separated from their babies in those first days. When those parents did get to see their babies, it was as emotional as you can imagine. Little things were big things- grasping onto a finger, skin to skin contact, tiny toes, engaged eyes. I noticed all of these subtleties and was always struck by the magnitude of those moments.

When I photograph newborn sessions now, I keep a focus on the little things (that are actually the big things.) A little detail that holds so much weight. My focus is on the connection of families, parents, and siblings. It is on the details of your baby- their hair, fingernails, and skin creases.

When you see these moments, frozen in time, and there for you to look back on- it creates an emotional reaction. Seeing the beauty of this time is so special! I am reserving newborn dates for 2025 now, and would love to be a part of documenting this experience for your family!

Welcome

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of authentic documentation. Our stories and truths are not only a gift for ourselves, but also through the generations, becoming treasured keepsakes as proof of our place and time. My passion lies in storytelling that focuses on your present moments. Whether our adventures take us deep into the Hudson Valley, high in the Catskill Mountains, or within the comfort of your home, it is always about where you are meant to be and where you feel the most alive.
