Using seasonal elements in photographs
Being able to use my environment and elements of nature in photographs is so important to me! I am also a huge believer of storytelling with images. And what better way to incorporate storytelling than with seasonal elements. Have a spring outdoor session planned? Here are a few of my favorite seasonal elements to include in your photography session:
-
Flowers! Of course, right? This one may seem obvious, but can be overlooked. Whether it is picking flowers with your kids, dancing among apple blossoms, or just smelling the scent of tulips. I absolutely love spring and the new life that comes along with it.
-
Rain. OK- stay with me on this one. While I don’t shoot in a rainstorm or with downpours, there may be puddles or signs of a rainstorm that has just gone. At the end of our session, when it doesn’t matter if clothes are dirty, puddle jumping is one of my favorite childhood pastimes to document! Also, if you are just with your kids on a random Tuesday, get out your phone and capture some puddle jumping, cool reflections, or raindrops on trees- it makes for magical images!
-
Nature and trees. New life is everywhere come Spring- and whether it is trees budding leaves, or other plants sprouting, I love to use nature and our surroundings to capture some of that childhood wonder. Getting your kids actually engaged with their environment makes for some of the best images.
Do you have any favorite spring time elements that you like to include in your photographs? I’d love to hear about how you incorporate seasonal elements into your images!
