I fell in love with natural lifestyle newborn photography when I started having my own kids. I had only seen overly posed babies in baskets and flower pots. I knew that wasn’t what I wanted. So I began searching Pinterest for ideas on how to document for my own babies, years before I ever had my business. I learned that there was a whole genre of newborn photography that focused on natural connections, tiny details, and an overall appreciation for the beauty and art in everyday.
After offering natural newborn lifestyle photo sessions, I quickly found out how much families love them. There is something to be said for wanting to be home with your baby in those first weeks, and not being too much out in public. For me, I took my babies out for doctors appointments in those first weeks, and that was it. Of course, there is the worry over germs, but also just the comfort of it all, being a postpartum mom. Your home really feels like the most comfortable place to be in those first weeks.
Homes offer a personal window into your lives, and I love visiting your spaces for these sessions. They hold your memories, your nostalgia, and keepsakes. We will focus on rooms such as nurseries, bedrooms, and living spaces. But also, if there is a space that holds extra importance to you, we definitely will spend time there too! Your environment is such an important storytelling element.
Being home also helps families feel more comfortable, which creates that beautiful natural aesthetic. While there is some posing, I love letting sessions unfold naturally to capture those unscripted moments. Whether it is in glances, laughter, serious moments, or lighter ones. This happens easily in spaces you feel like yourself in. It allows me to see the life you live and are creating. I love bearing witness to it all!
To me, that is how great photography is created. When you become a little vulnerable, and allow me into your personal spaces, I get the chance to really see your family. My hope is that when we are through, you receive a collection of memories that perfectly captures your spirit.
