The Inspiration Behind My Favorite Urban Backdrops
While the majority of my backdrops for family sessions are centered in the Hudson Valley, New York City provides endless inspiration. There are so many beautiful urban backdrops- from parks to skylines, to charming neighborhood streets. If you have nostalgia for the city, or currently live there, consider a city backdrop for your next session.
City backdrops are vibrant and lively. I encourage families who are looking to plan a city session, to think of places that inspire them. There is no wrong way to do a city session. Places that inspire can be beautifully diverse reflections of you as a family. Some of my favorite backdrops I have done include:
- Brooklyn Bridge Park
- Neighborhood playgrounds
- Brownstone Brooklyn Streets
- Bryant Park/ Midtown Manhattan
- New York Public Library
- Inside your own apartment/ home!
These are just a few of my favorites, but I would love to hear about the places that inspire you! Whether it is your own neighborhood, or a spot where you like to go with your family. It can be a museum, a special street, or landmark.
There are a few things/ tips I like to share for city sessions:
- Shooting early in the morning is a great way to get the city feel without huge crowds. You can explore midtown streets or busy parks with no crowds!
- Depending on where we shoot, our session may be timed a little farther from Golden Hour (buildings and trees can shade the sun more than an open view)
- Have fun with it! City sessions capture vitality, fun, and movement. Embrace the energy, and we will create gorgeous images together!
