Making the most of your family’s photographs
One of the reasons I love lifestyle photography so much is that no two sessions are the same. Each session takes on the uniqueness of its family, making it a true storytelling experience. While poses or prompts may be repeated, each family has its own energy and personality. And because my images are full of personality, they all take a life of their own! I also like to encourage families to put their own stamp on their session by incorporating simple things into our session together. Adding your own personal touch gives your images depth and meaning. After all, your story is unique to YOU and YOUR family… and that is what I am documenting. Here are some ways I like to customize sessions:

I have every family fill out a questionnaire after booking. This helps me better get to know you and your family ahead of our time together. Maybe your child has a rambunctious personality, or maybe they are shy and quiet. Maybe Dad doesn’t like getting his picture taken. Whatever it is, it is your opportunity to tell me about your crew. Your hobbies and interests, personalities and quirks. I take notes and remember what you tell me. This not only helps me better connect with you, but also showcase authenticity through my images.

Have on hand sentimental or heirloom objects. Whether it’s a newborn session which you have a blanket passed on through generations, or maybe a photograph you’d like to incorporate of someone no longer present. I always encourage families to think about any special objects with meaning that they may want to have in their images. Meaningful objects add meaning and depth to your photographs.

If you have any special hobbies or interests you may want in your session, I am always willing to collaborate! Does someone play guitar? Or maybe your family has special ties to another country or culture. This is all part of your story. I’d love to know what makes your family unique and how we can classically incorporate your personality into your photographs.
