How to Best Plan for your Summer Photo Session with Kids
Best Planning For Summer Sessions
Summer is a great time to schedule family photography with your small kids. Because outdoor sessions take place at either sunrise or sunset, often times kids will be staying up past bedtimes or waking up early to make the timing work for summer photography. As parents, I know this can be stressful! I have some tips and tricks to ensure success for a beautiful family photography session.
- Have snacks and drinks on hand- this one is super important! If kids are cranky and hungry, they won’t be happy or engaged. Make sure you have all the things on hand.
- If they have a security object, let them bring it along. A favorite stuffed animal, blanket, etc. is always welcome. In fact, incorporating them into a few photos is a beautiful storytelling piece for your kids at this age.
- Adjust nap times ever so slightly to help with the later bedtime. An hour can make a big difference!
- If you’re comfortable with it, bribery! Incentives such as a late night treat, will help keep kids excited and engaged.
I know it may be hard to believe, but kids are typically excited and stimulated by the new environment and all the fun we have during sessions, that by the time exhaustion hits them, we are already done! I will also communicate with you at the start of the session to get a sense of where schedules are. I will prioritize the kids first with photos, so that way, even if they do tire halfway through, we have already gotten the photos we need to get.
As a mom of three little ones myself, I know how stressful it can be to coordinate around bedtimes and schedules. We work together to ensure not only that you have great photographs, but that your kids are happy in the process! Any more questions? Feel free to send me an email, and I can help guide in the right direction and ease any concerns.
