The Magic of Springtime in the Hudson Valley
A list of beautiful backdrops for your Springtime Photography Session
After a long and cold winter, springtime feels like a big exhale! It is one of my favorite seasons to get outside for photography, because it just feels so good to be outside and in fresh air after months of being inside. Springtime is a great time to consider an outdoor photography session, whether it is for your growing family or maternity experience.
The Hudson Valley has no shortage of beautiful locations. One of my favorite things to capture is the flowering trees that put on an amazing show from April to May! Because there are so many orchards in the Red Hook area, orchards are one of the best places to welcome spring, in my opinion. If flowering trees aren’t your thing, all good! It is the season for wildflowers, budding trees, grasses sprouting, and more golden light.
I have a few specific backdrops that I personally love for Spring. Which one speaks to you most?
- Orchards: These are my favorite! Each fruit tree gives off different colors, and during different weeks throughout spring. Whites and creams give a more neutral vibe, while the pinks and reds give a bold display! These are best viewed in the month of April
- Fields: Wildflowers are just starting to sprout up around May, grasses are growing and leaves are decorating the trees. For a more green, laidback scene- open fields are a great option. What I love the most about my field locations is that most of them have distant Catskill Mountain views which add even more natural beauty!
- Lakes: If you are a family drawn to water, Spring is a great time to celebrate this. Snow melt causes rivers and lakes to be a little bit extra. And while it may be too cold to get inside, it is beautiful to just be alongside- whether it is a large waterfall or small stream.
- Mountains: Well, the mountains are beautiful no matter what time of year you go! But springtime is especially beautiful as wildflowers pop up around the fields. The Catskills are always a favorite of mine!
- New York City: I love when I have the opportunity to be here! Cherry blossom trees, Central Park, urban backdrops – it is all so beautiful and inspirational for photography. If you call this city home or are just simply visiting, I would love to document your family. It is truly the best city in the world!
