The best time to schedule fall family photos

Scheduling your fall session- All you need to know!

The fall season is, without a doubt, my busiest time of year! The beautiful colors, cooler weather, and stunning outdoor locations all create a dreamy and magical fall photo experience. The fall season covers September to November, and in that time period, there are a lot of seasonal changes! Depending on the look and feel you are wanting to achieve with your photos, different times throughout the fall should be considered. Here is a month by month guide of what to expect:

September:

September is great if you are looking for a tail end summer session, with just a touch of fall. Early September will feel like summer, and toward the end of the month, there will be ever so slight change in leaf color. There won’t be a lot of foliage, but there will still be a chance for seasonably warm temperatures, which gives some freedom with styling. The days, while getting shorter, are still on the longer side, so sunset times will be after dinner. Overall, this is a good option if you still want some leaves on the trees, flowers in bloom, and an easy breezy aesthetic!

October:

Early October will see leaf change on a smaller scale, and as the month progresses it will become more vibrant. Peak foliage in the Hudson Valley usually occurs around the 3rd week in October. October also brings cooler weather and earlier sunsets- both good things for those with small children! Styling here is cozy and fun- think plaids, sweaters, and lots of texture and muted rich color!

November:

Don’t count November out! Early November gives us some of the best fall weather. I absolutely love the rich deep colors of past peak foliage. When there are a few leaves left hanging on to the trees. There is a magical feel in the air as November brings the feel of a true change of season. There is still a lot of foliage to be had here earlier in the month. Mid November is when it typically trails off. Mid to late November can bring unpredictability to the weather as well, so your best bet for a fall session is to plan earlier in the month.
