A Guide For Expecting Couples on their Babymoon in the Hudson Valley
My favorite local spots for couples
If you are a couple expecting a baby, and are planning a babymoon in the Hudson Valley, I am here to share my top picks for the ultimate adventure! The Hudson Valley is filled with beautiful places, and it seems that everyday more amazing things to do are popping up! Here are my top recommendations, broken up by category.
LODGING:
There is truly a place for everyone. Some of my favorites include:
- For Outdoor Enthusiasts: Check out Autocamp Catskills, Saugerties NY. This new spot is tucked back in the woods right outside the Catskills. There is a main lodge with all of your comforts (nice bathrooms, coffeeshop, fire place, lounging area), and but step outside, and your immersed into nature. This spot is perfect for those who love the outdoors, but not quite wanting to rough it with true tent camping. It really is the best of both worlds. https://autocamp.com/catskills/
- For art/urban/history lovers: Check out Hotel Kinsley, Kingston NY. This boutique hotel is completely reimagined in a historical space, in the cultural hub of Kingston. There is lots to do right outside your doorstep, and the hotel has its own restaurant and cocktail bar. https://hotelkinsley.com/
- For a peaceful, fully luxurious experience: Inness, Accord NY. This property sits in the Shawangunk Mountain Range, and has it’s own golf club, restaurant, and hiking trails. It is truly a mind and body experience! https://inness.co/
- An inclusive unique worldly experience with a heavy emphasis on design: Foxfire Mountain House. A beautifully restored boutique hotel, with a restaurant, bar, and gorgeous surrounding grounds. An especially magical place for those with an appreciation for worldly design. https://www.foxfiremountainhouse.com/
THINGS TO DO:
- Hiking: If you are feeling well enough in your pregnancy for some outdoor activity, some of my favorite spots include Mohonk Preserve, Lake Minnewaska, and Kaaterskill Falls. These hiking areas range from easy to difficult, depending on what you’re after. If you are looking for a brisk scenic walking area, I’d recommend Ferncliff Forest, Poet’s Walk or Burger Hill Park- all located in the Red Hook/ Rhinebeck area.
- Antiquing: A favorite pastime of mine! Be sure to check out Zaborski’s Emporium (Kingston, NY), Hyde Park Antiques Center, and around Hudson, NY.
- History: FDR estate, Vanderbilt Estate, Eleanor Roosevelt’s Home (all located within a few miles from each other in Hyde Park). Also, Olana State Historic Site (Hudson, NY) the home of Frederick Church; and Montgomery Place Estate (Red Hook NY).
RESTAURANTS:
- The Amsterdam, Rhinebeck NY
- Le Petit Bistro, Rhinebeck NY
- The Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park NY
