What I look for in a location for your outdoor golden hour photography session

Picking the perfect inspiring location for your memories

I am pretty open about how important environment is to my photographs and sessions. Because I shoot lifestyle photography, and I like to keep things natural, organic and fun- I like my locations to feel like this too! I have spent a lot of time seeking out the perfect spots, that not only are naturally beautiful but that also capture the light just right. So want to know some of what specifically goes into the right location? I’m sharing my secrets here!

  • LIGHT! and not just any light. My outdoor sessions take place at sunrise or sunset. So locations that offer some views to the east or west, and ideally that allow for some filtering of the light. Especially in the summer, the sun can be stronger (even at sunset), so having a tree line to help filter the light is very helpful.

  • Tall grasses or unmanicured landscapes. I don’t love perfectly groomed locations. For one, they are a bit boring! Having a natural environment not only adds texture and visual interest, but adds a poetic meaning as well. People are often not perfectly put together, and it sort of makes sense that a naturally kept environment feels right for lifestyle family photography. People aren’t perfect, and neither are the locations we meet in.

  • Mountains or vistas

Welcome

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of authentic documentation. Our stories and truths are not only a gift for ourselves, but also through the generations, becoming treasured keepsakes as proof of our place and time. My passion lies in storytelling that focuses on your present moments. Whether our adventures take us deep into the Hudson Valley, high in the Catskill Mountains, or within the comfort of your home, it is always about where you are meant to be and where you feel the most alive.
