The Importance of capturing the details in your photographs
I have a passion for family storytelling in photography. Going beneath the surface of your experience is what energizes and inspires me in documentation. So what exactly is family storytelling in photography, and what does it look like for your family?
The process starts for me right when you reserve your session. From the beginning, I am engaged with your story. I love to learn about you, your partner, your kids, your pets- well, all of it! You will receive a questionnaire upon booking that will help me learn more about your family and scratch the surface a bit. I also love to do check ins with you in preparation for our session. I am invested with you just as you are invested into me. All of these interactions help me learn more about your unique story and experience.
During session day, I am tuned into all of it! I take all of the details you have told me, and keep it in mind while I am documenting. While I will give you prompts and direction to help foster flattering angles and positions, I am just as interested in what happens in those in between moments. Candid laughter, glances, fixing of hair, hand holding, snuggling- all of it! You don’t even realize you are doing these things most of the time, because you are so tuned into your family. But I promise, these magical interactions are happening all around and with every session!
When the real magic happens is in post production, when I go through all of the moments captured. My absolute favorite photographs are the ones that come as a surprise. The ones that weren’t expected or prompted. On average, almost half of all galleries are moments that are the in between.
