Why In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Photography? It’s sentimental, beautiful, and baby-led.

Storytelling in-home newborn photography

Stephanie Lozano Photography

You may have been hearing more about in-home newborn sessions lately, and for good reason. They are sentimental, comfortable, and authentic. And especially in the scary times we are in now with illnesses, germs, and viruses, home really is the safest place to be. There are so many beautiful reasons why these sessions have my heart. So let’s dive in!

WHAT ARE LIFESTYLE NEWBORN SESSIONS?

A lifestyle newborn at home session aims to capture those magical feelings of the first few days and weeks home with your little one. The photographs are centered around your spaces. Have you meticulously perfected his nursery, scouring Pinterest for months on end? Have you splurged for that beautiful personalized blanket that she’s been snuggling in your arms with? Or maybe you have a sentimental heirloom, thats been passed through the generations and now is finally gifted to your little one. These photos are a personalized, intimate glimpse into what makes your family so unique and special. I really believe home has so much sentimental value. Studio newborn sessions can be wonderful, but they do not offer the personalized, nostalgic, custom experience of an in-home session. My lifestyle sessions document the realities of your life, with a romantic spin. I don’t try to force newborns into unnatural poses, but rather gently position them comfortably with you to capture the beautiful bond you share with your little one.

SENTIMENTAL CONNECTION

Everyone remembers where you took your baby home to for the first time. Homes carry emotions, and we share some of our greatest joys in our homes. To document your baby at home, is part of your story. Because I am a storytelling photographer, this element is so important! I want to incorporate all of your nostalgic elements into your photographs, and that is something we go over prior to your session. I know many of you may be concerned about a messy house, or it not being “photo ready.” I have two little ones, 18 months apart, and I totally get it! Especially when my second was born, my house was a tornado most days! Because I use only natural light, we will discuss prior to your session the best 2-3 spaces for your photos based on lighting. All that is needed is tidying in these areas, and then when I come to your home we can pick the best two spots to focus our photographs in. Most common areas are nurseries, bedrooms, and living spaces. If you want an in-home session, then it’s possible no matter your living situation- we make it work!

SAFETY AND COMFORT

Of course I must mention the safety aspect of in-home sessions. I have 12 years under my belt as a neonatal ICU nurse. As a newborn nurse, we always told our families to be cautious about leaving home with your baby in those first few days and weeks. In those first few weeks of life, babies are fragile and their little immune systems are just learning how to work. What could be a little cold for you, can turn into something more serious for an infant. The reason I bring this up, is because home really is the safest place for your baby in those first few weeks. The beauty of in-home sessions, is you don’t have to leave your home, and you can feel rest-assured that your little one will be kept safe. And especially for mamas too, who may have had a rough delivery, or just not feeling totally healed yet, in- home newborn sessions allow you that comfort that you need in those first few weeks.

FINAL THOUGHTS

What are some of the types of photographs you can expect from these sessions? Lots of cuddling, feeding, consoling, and reading storybooks. Maybe lullabies, or just gazing into their eyes. Each session is customized to each family. So, why in-home lifestyle newborn photos? They are baby-led and oh so beautiful.

Welcome

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of authentic documentation. Our stories and truths are not only a gift for ourselves, but also through the generations, becoming treasured keepsakes as proof of our place and time. My passion lies in storytelling that focuses on your present moments. Whether our adventures take us deep into the Hudson Valley, high in the Catskill Mountains, or within the comfort of your home, it is always about where you are meant to be and where you feel the most alive.
